Painter and engraver born in Montevideo in 1855, carried out his first artistic studies in Europe, mainly in Florence, city preferred in the time, to fulfil "the trip to Italy", considered unavoidable for all new man in the careers of the arts.
Was a pupil of Giovanni Fattori, marrying his stepdaughter.

Was professor at the School of Arts and Occupations (1879-83), occupying the director's position . Once returned to Uruguay was Director of the National Museum of Fine arts , recently created, and carried out the position until his death, in Montevideo February 1928. he obtained a prize at the Exhibition of Paris (1889) with their work "The Great Channel" (Venice).
