Spanish (Toledo) model 1843 artillery/engineer's short sword, dated 1876, Spanish-American War. 1132 grams, 22" long. Very wide blade (2-1/4") with point blunted from use, clearly engraved ARTa FABa DE TOLEDO 1876 on ricasso, heavy brass handle with fish-scale grip, plain crossbar and two-sided pommel with design of plant in vase, lightly patinated all over, a design issued to Spanish colonial artillery to be used as both a weapon and a tool (like a machete).
