This loose Spanish Silver Eight Reale was salvaged from a pirate attacked shipwreck, "Consolacion", that sank in 1681, near a remote island off Ecuador. This coin was minted in Potosi, Bolivia. The coin has a nice partial cross strike with a mint mark "P", and lion and castle marks visible on one side. On the reverse side, the mint, assayer, and a partial date appear, along with part of the word Potosi, written out on the coin, which is a hard feature to find on these coins. This coin was salvaged in 2008 by treasure divers. The total weight of the coin i 15.8 grams, and it is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
