Spanish Flintlock Miquelet Pistol with Vaxarias Makers Mark
Produced without sights, with light engraving near the middle bands, gold filled floral and anchor themed stamps on the breech, and a gold proof stamp "crown/ VAX/ ARI/ AS" on the rear of the top flat. Vaxarias was a gunsmith from Ripoll, a major firearms producer for Spain which suffered a number of French invasions as well virtual destruction during the First Carlist War of 1833-1839. Miquelet style lock, with an externally visible half-cock notch and sear, engraved accent plates on the hammer and flash pan, engraved external hammer spring and frizzen, and a detachable flash pan. Full length stock, with raised carved scrollwork, brass tipped ramrod with engraved brass pipes, martial engravings on the trigger guard, fancy inscription plate on the wrist topped with a crown, brass reverse plate with a bust set amongst flags and cannons, "B1064" painted on the underside of the wrist and a brass buttcap with engraved arrays of arms set around a raised grotesque screaming face.

Condition: Very good. The barrel is a fine brown patina finish, streaked with gray and showing some light handling marks and edge wear. The tang and lock hardware are bright, with some mild pitting and handling marks. Stock is very good, with mild pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
