This is a magnificent and rare sterling silver souvenir spoon for the serious collector!
This 5 1/2" long bon bon spoon is totally gold washed. The handle is an ornate pierced floral pattern. However, the bowl is outstanding! It features the 4 part coat of arms of Spain, 2 castle turrets and 2 lions. It is topped by a crown and surrounded by little flowers. At the very end is an animal hanging from a cross. This is actually a souvenir of St. Augustine, Florida. This was the first European settlement in North American, settled by Spanish in 1565. This spoon celebrates the Spanish link to the city.

This spoon is pictured on page 16 of the book American Spoons, Souvenir and Historical by Dorothy Rainwater and Donna Felger. There are bright enamel highlights in the bowl, most noticable in the crest but also as the center of the flowers and in the crown. There are a couple of areas of missing color, the bottom turret is missing one of its windows and the door. There are a couple of other spots of missing color, but nothing too noticable. This spoon, according to the book, was made by Durgin even though there is no maker's mark on the back. It is a wonderful and highly desirable spoon in remarkable condition!
