This mortar cannon was a bag gun using a 3.6 inch projectile and bag of powder and friction primer. It is totally
legal for any one to buy. A total of 78 of these manufactured at US Watervliet Arsenal between 1890 to 1901.
There are 23 known survivors as of this date, with 10 of them in private hands, and the 13 in governmental hands.
These used both in in 1898 in Cuba in support of the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry--the famed Rough Riders under
Theodore Roosevelt, and also in the Campaign in the Philippines. This an early example made in 1893 Serial No. 17.
