c1750-This is a Spanish musket from the 1700s. This gun has a Miquelete flintlock mechanism. This was the type used by the Spanish during the Pirates of the Caribbean era of Spanish colonization. It appears that the barrel has been re-browned. There are numbers 5008 faintly stamped on the trigger guard and the name N.B. Vavese, the gunsmith, scrolled on the lock. Being a musket, this is a smoothbore. The thinness of the barrel would indicate that this is a shotgun. The width of the barrel opening is close to modern day .410 gauges. There are some cracking and chipping issues on the stock, but the sling buckles and ramrod are in place. There are fine examples of the craftsman’s scrollwork on both the wood and metal parts of this gun. This would make a great wall hanger for all you conquistadors or pirates. It has a 33” barrel and measures 48” overall. It has the classic Spanish butt with brass furnishings. Again, a nice historic decoration for the man cave or sewing room. HKA#64806
