American flag flown in space on NASA's STS-1 mission. On 12 April 1981 from Kennedy Space Center, the Space Shuttle Columbia launched in its record-breaking mission as the very first American orbital manned spacecraft to complete flight. Its crew, commander John Young and pilot Robert Crippen successfully landed safely two days later at Edwards Air Force Base. Flag measures 5.75'' x 4'' and comes mounted to an official NASA certificate featuring color photos of Columbia, mission insignia and a printed dedication to a Hal Lelle. Measures 8.5'' x 11'' overall. Some staining and toning to adhesive of flag. Overall, very good condition.
