Space-flown thermal tile from the exterior of Space Shuttle Columbia's STS-1 mission. Thermal tile acrylic material is encased in a lucite block, displayed with certificates identifying it as, ''This is a segment of a thermal tile which protected the Space Shuttle Orbiter 'Columbia' (STS-1) from the heat of re-entry on its first flight April 12-14, 1981.'' Another sign dedicates the piece to astronaut Robert F. Overmyer, veteran of missions STS-5 and STS-51-B. Lucite block measures 3.75'' x 2.75'' x 1'' thick. Tiny piece of tile measures .5'' x .5''. Fine condition.
