Apollo 11 space-flown Kapton foil clipping, affixed to a Buzz Aldrin typed letter signed attesting to the authenticity of the piece. The small reflective square of Kapton foil is secured behind a 1'' transparent square, affixed on a dark blue strip on Buzz Aldrin's personal Apollo 11 stationery. His letter explains the origin of the foil, in part: ''...To protect our fragile craft...a thin layer of material known as KAPTON FOIL, gold-colored on the front and with a silver backing, was attached to the outside skin of the Columbia. This delicate foil played a critical role by reflecting the sun's intense heat...gold-colored side was directly exposed to deep space...most of it burned off the ship during...re-entry...However, a small portion survived; salvaged by the North American Rockwell Recovery Team on board the aircraft carrier Hornet...[signed] Buzz Aldrin''. 1pp. letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Near fine. Kapton foil measures 3mm. Fine.
