Astronaut Judy Resnik's personally owned space-flown American flag and space-flown NASA patch with signed dedication. Items were flown aboard the STS-41-D ''Discovery'' mission, in which Resnik served as mission specialist, becoming the second American female astronaut to go to space. Two years later, Resnik was one of seven crew members aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger who died tragically as the spacecraft disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean. Flown items are mounted and framed to a certificate signed ''Judy Resnik'' in ink. Included in the framed display is a collection of four photos from Discovery's maiden flight, one of which depicts Resnik posing joyfully with her fellow astronauts. Certificate bears a caption that reads in full, ''This flag and patch were flown aboard the first flight of the Space Shuttle DISCOVERY STS 41D, August 30- September 5, 1984''. Display measures 21'' x 17'' overall. Some lifting to photos at edges, else near fine. Possibly unique.
