An unusual and interesting training device from the Cold War, which was used by the Russian Navy and the maritime service for celestial navigation and star tracking on ships

This celestial globe was crafted in 1950 in the former Soviet Union. The celestial globe is provided with a meridian and a horizon scale. There are twelve printed paper segments and two polar caps. The stellar constellations are designated by the Latin name. It is an interesting training tool from the Cold War, which was used by the Russian Navy and the maritime service for sky navigation and star tracking exercises on ships.



The celestial globe is kept in a cube-shaped box with hinged lid and clasp. The cover bears the metal badge with metal plaque ‘BMC 629 338 No. 302 1950r.BEC 5’. The celestial globe shows traces of age and wear. The surface of the sphere shows a few scratches. The globe is 53 cm in diameter and the dimensions of the box are 25.2 x 24.5 x 24.7 cm.
