Southern Plains Parfleche Lined Beaded Sheath
The lot features a beaded hide parfleche lined knife sheath in classic Southern Plains pattern paired with an old trade knife. The sheath exhibits tanned hides over parfleche rawhide and has a geometric pattern in old glass trade seed beads. Some examples from the Arapaho have this checkered atop geometric pattern. The beads shows greasy yellow, coablt, greasy white, red white heart with a fancy edge in red white heart. There are hide fringes with rolled tin jingle dangle cones and a hide tie. The knife exhibits a classic 19th Century pattern of hardwood, likely walnut, two piece handle with pewter inlay, stamped "1540". The camp blade has some rust. A nice looking set. The sheath by itself with the ties and fringes measures 14"L by 2"W (without fringes is 5 1/8"L). Knife is 7.25"L with the blade being 3.5"L.
