This is an excellent Southern Plains Native American Indian wood coup staff or stick from circa late 19th century. The staff shows a rich wood with red ocher mineral dyed and the back edge is lined with yellow ocher mineral painted effigy figures of a snake, lizzard, cross, and others. The coup staff shows sinew rawhide wrapped constuction with Buffalo Bison hair accents and various Turkey feather fringe pieces. Overall a very well crafted original piece. Provenance: The piece is from a large Native American Indian artifact private collection in Saskatchewan, Canada and was purchased in Canada. Measures overall 60.25"L x 6.75"W.
