Southern Plains Beaded Strike-A-Lite Bag w/ Silver
The lot features a Southern Plains beaded strike-a-lite beaded bag / pouch with large silver concho. The pouch or bag is comprised of thick harness saddle leather sewn with sinew in a traditional Southern Plains pattern with classic geometric beadwork with rolled tin jingle dangle cones bordering the top flap and bottom tied with Indian tanned hide. The beadwork is all sinew sewn and appears to be all early glass trade seed beads showing colors of chalk white, cobalt, sky padre light blue, semi-transparent red, greasy medium blue. The beadwork extends across the front, side edges and top of flap. The front of the flap has a large 1 3/8 inch diameter silver concho button, the silver content is unknown. The top shows Indian tanned belt ties with four brass trade beads. The bottom shows braided Indian tanned hide fringes. The bag itself is made with early antique material in classic 19th Century pattern, but likely either of a contemporary make or repaired and preserved old example. Likely in the pattern of the Southern Comanche or Kiowa. Measures overall including fringes 20.5”L, without fringes 7.25”L by 4”W. U6.
