Southern German or Carlsbadian Flintlock Fowler
Ornate brass mounts and ornately chiseled barrel, signed Johan Simion Liper, the rest is so fancily signed as to be illegible. The gun measures approx. 59” overall with 44” barrel, of approx. 16ga smoothbore. The gun
is full stocked to the muzzle in a light colored wood stock with nice raised carving around the tangs and well molded around fixtures. The gun shows very fancy cast mounts that are nicely chased and relieved
including the lock and show hunting scenes and other classic European decorations. The side plate is missing its front half. The rear portion shows a dog and is ornately pierced. The stock is broken approx. 14-1/2”
from the breech, and there is a large sliver of wood missing from the top edge on the right side. The hammer and frizzen are nicely chiseled in high relief. The rear portion of the barrel is deep chiseled in high relief
for approx. 11” and shows a portrait of what may be a king being crowned, and a rider on horseback shooting a pistol, along with grotesque faces and North wind. A very ornate Germanic gun in out-of-the-attic condition
