This is a rare large hand drawn and hand painted watercolor on paper dating from the mid 19th century Civil war period 1860's. The subject is of a young woman wearing a black Victorian mourning dress, hoop skirt. she has on beautiful gold jewelry. And rest on hand on a carved a tufted Rococo Revival chair covered with a cape with ermine fur black tall tips. She appears to be standing in a double parlor by a marble mantel, Just behind her a Greek Revival Tower of the winds columns separating the front and back parlor. She is standing on Floral English carpets fashionable in mid 19th century America.

In the lower left hand corner the painting is singed in pencil Stanton & Butler. I could not find any info on the artist. This item was found in Baltimore County just right outside of Baltimore city. Thy could be local artist. This artwork is in it's original gold gilt Rococo Revival frame. The frame is in wonderful original condition. With very little wear and damage to the ornate detail. This water color is French matted but the outer most matte has been replaced. Most of these from this period are hand tented photographs but this is a original piece of artwork. All original in great condition.

The watercolor is 20" by 16" the other matt's 25" by 21" and the frame 30" by 26" The frame is 3" inches thick.
