Album published by M. Rieder, 234 New High Street, Los Angeles in 1903. Ten by eight inches, black and white photos, 61 pages of Southern California at the beginning of the 20th Century. Fabulous views of the Old Missions: San Gabriel, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Barbara. Hotels Coronado (San Diego), Casa Loma (Redlands). Orange groves, Avalon (Santa Catalina Island), street scenes, the Pasadena ostrich farm. Introduction written by Maj. Ben C. Truman, famous civil war correspondent, Secretary to President Andrew Johnson, and promoter of California after the turn of the century. Staple bound, stain on cover, small tear frontispiece, all else very good. An idyllic vision of what South California used to be.
