South Eastern & Chatham/Croydon & Oxted Railway 3-aspect HANDLAMP, the reducing-cone brass-plated "SE & CR.G.No.718". The body bears an oval maker's plate "J. Cowdy". Around the inside of the body base is stamped "Croydon & Oxted Joint Railway". A rape-oil vessel; reflector; rectangular bevelled front lens and all glasses (one drum glass broken). No back handle. Note The Croydon & Oxted Railway opened in 1884 to operate a line from Woodside to Crowhurst Junction. It was operated jointly by the SER and LBSCR, and was grouped into the SR in 1923. A very rare lamp.
