This is an original work of art oil on canvas by Gary Carter titled, "Soup Bones Du Jour". Gary Carter (1939-) is one of the most renowned Western & Native American artist of the 20th and 21st century. Gary Carter is a West Yellowstone, Montana artist. He is a part of the Cowboy Artist of America and was adopted by the Crow Tribe and Real Bird Family and made a member of the Big Lodge Clan, given the Indian name of “Eagle Man”. The piece is hand signed by the artist lower left and on the back of the canvas. The piece was a study for the larger piece that was valued at over $9,000 (pictured in Southwest Art, March 1989 issue, page 51 and pictured in True West, December 1990 issue, page 18). Very rare original work by Gary Carter. The piece was painted in the mid to late 1980's and shows a bearded mountain man in full Indian dress with bear claw necklace and brass tacked knife sheath holding two large Buffalo Skulls with various Native American Indian tepees in the background. The original frame is 26.5"x22.5". The canvas is 18"x14". Gary Carter's work has been valued and sold for over $20,000. Provenance: From the Donna Vining Estate collection, Donna was personal friends with Gary Carter and has owned over 10 of his originals.
