Elegant trophy won by french football legend Jean-Pierre Papin in 1989, while he was a member of the Marseille football club. The ''Soulier d'or'' trophy was presented to the top scorer of the French soccer league. A prolific striker, Papin won the ''Soulier d'or'' trophy five years in a row from 1988 to 1992. Papin also led the league with 22 goals in 36 league appearances in the 1988-89 season. The french term ''Papinade'' came about as a way to describe Papin's powerful volley shots, and is still used to describe those types of shots today. Trophy features a rounded artistic representation of a shiny gold footballer kicking a brushed gold ball, affixed to a heavy black base, which reads ''...Soulier d'or 1989 / Meilleur Buteur de France / Jean-Pierre Papin / O. Marseille...'' Measures 6'' x 2.5'' x 7''. Weighs 1.88 grams or 4 lbs. 2 oz. Some scratches to gold portion of trophy, otherwise near fine. Obtained directly from Jean-Pierre Papin and with his LOA.
