Sotheby's - New York. THE NELSON BUNKER HUNT COLLECTION. HIGHLY IMPORTANT GREEK AND ROMAN COINS PART III. December 4, 1990. 4to. 1-117 Lots. Original gray boards, gilt, jacket. Public Auction Sale. New York. 256 Pages. all coins illustrated in monochrome at actual size, accompanied by full-page color enlargements. This auction sale catalog includes numismatic material from Ancient Greece and Rome as part of the Nelson Bunker Hunt collection. Four or five times a century, an outstanding collection of ancient coins comes on the market illustrating a series of specimens in such a superb state of preservation, of such historical significance and of so comprehensive a scope, that they become standard reference works in their own right. This volume, the third of the catalogues of the Nelson Bunker Hunt Collection, is destined to take its place among them and on the library shelf of all serious numismatists. The Hunt brothers began assembling their collections in the late 1970s, frequently buying large quantities of remarkable coins at aggressive prices. Tom Eden catalogued the Greek coins, with David Tripp cataloguing the Roman material. The sale catalogues are expertly written and beautifully illustrated. Lot weight: 2 lbs 8oz. Subject(s): Ancient Coinage.
