Sotheby & Co. CATALOGUE OF AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT RUSSIAN COLLECTION. October 7-8, 1969. 1-890 lots. Crown 4to. This auction sale catalog includes numismatic material from Russia consigned by the Soviet Government. This collection contains many difficult dates and varieties not only in gold but amongst the roubles and small denominations. Special mention must be made of the proof coins as hitherto these have only appeared very infrequently. They are all of great rarity especially those of the C.C.C.P. issues. As many as possible of the major types have been illustrated. Many of these pieces have been carefully preserved in envelopes and thus few are toned to any degree. Apart from the books referred to in the bibliography the following catalogues were also used to aid in cataloging this collection: Chaudoir, Schubert and Petrov. Dr. F. G. Spassky's 'The Russian Monetary System' is recommended for good background reading to collecting the Russian series. London. original green printed card covers. (4), 78, (2) pages. 15 fine plates of coins. Fine. Clain-Stefanelli 11214. Lot weight: 0 lbs 8oz. Subject(s): Russian Coinage.
