Alex 'Rice' Miller, aka Sonny Boy Williamson, (1912–1965) was recognized as a giant throughout the blues world as a harmonica player, vocalist, songwriter, recording artist, live performer, and colorful personality. Sonny Boy Williamson's personally-owned and -used M. Hohner Marine Band harmonica in the key of C. Includes the original box, as well as a vintage ballpoint signature, "Williamson," on an off-white 4 x 3.5 sheet affixed to a larger sheet of Maxford Development Company letterhead. In very good to fine condition, with some scuffing from use to the harmonica, and the signature trimmed and a central vertical crease. Consignor notes that the harmonica was purchased from Williamson in 1964 by a chauffeur working for London's famous Marquee Club. The signature was obtained at The Purple Onion in Middlesbrough. Interestingly, due to his poor eyesight, Williamson painted the left comb end of the harmonica in red and white as a visual aid to discern the key of the instrument.
