Paul Robeson, with a contract giving him final cut, set out to portray the "many aspects of the life of the colored man in the West." Robeson is a dockworker in England who becomes an opera star. When he starts to investigate his roots, he gives up opera to go to Africa, where he is hailed as the ancestral heir to the throne of his tribe. This Australian daybill has staple holes with tears, edge wear with wrinkling, and a few pinpoint stains. There are several extra horizontal folds, two light vertical creases, and theater info painted on the imprint area. The poster features a magnificent duotone shot of Robeson.
