Stunning metallic piece! Silver text: Solano Brewery Steam Beer. Gold text: Charles Widenmann, Proprietor. Gold engraving on a Native American chief surrounded by hops/barley. Black background. Made by American Can Company, San Francisco. Measures approx. 20" x 27 1/2" in a 25" x 32" frame. The Solano Brewery, located on Kentucky Street in Vallejo, was founded in 1870 by German immigrants Charles Widenmann and Peter Rothenbusch at a cost of $24,000. By 1891, the facility could turn out 6,000 barrels a year. Widenmann bought control of the company and worked it until 1918. [Ref: Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum and History of Solano County, 1879] This piece was never mounted and is in fabulous condition. Burt Collection
