Featured in this lot is a First Edition of "Society of Montana Pioneers, Volume I Register", 1899, edited by James U. Sanders, Secretary. Society of Montana Pioneers: Constitution, Members, and Officers, with Portraits and Maps: Volume 1. The register includes early historical material and maps for Montana. The maps include a large fold-out map on thin paper at the front that is a reproduction of W. W. DeLacy's 1865 map of Montana and colored maps for each of the 24 counties scattered throughout. There are four full-page "views" of Fort Benton, Bison, Worden and Company (Hell Gate Ronde) and Fort Owen. The bulk of the text is a listing of the Society's members, listed by county. There are also 14 pages of portraits, each featuring the Society's presidents from 1884 to 1898. The text is largely a biographical list of early Montana pioneers with details including from where they came, how and route of travel overland, and current residence and profession. This book is in amazingly well preserved condition, the green cloth bound hardcover gold gilt Society emblem on the front cover, gold gilt text on spine. Light scuffing on cover edges noted, light soiling on cover. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and very light foxing observed. No other obvious marring noted. Measures 10.25"L x 7.5"W x 1.25"D.*
