<B>So-Called Dollar HK-756 MS63 NGC.</B></I> Bronze. One of the scarcest of the so-called dollars as listed in the Hibler-Kappen catalog, listed as "extremely rare." Dr. Kane led the second expedition to the Arctic in 1853 to attempt the location of the Franklin expedition, but was unsuccessful. Kane died in 1857, and this medal was struck to commemorate either his death or his expeditions. Just who designed this piece has been lost to history.
