This is an excellent example of an original condition Snead Company shallow water diving helmet. The helmet is made of cast iron with an acrylic window. A small brass threaded air fitting is located behind the handle on top of the helmet. Unlike other types of shallow water helmets, there is no need to bolt on lead weights. This example does retain the window frame, which is commonly missing and very difficult to replace. The acrylic window is in very good condition. Old silver paint, consistent with the original, is in very good condition with only slight signs of age and wear. No evident cracks or breaks in the cast iron body are visible. Helmet weights approximately 65 pounds.Carrying a distinguished history of service, this helmet was owned by The Ocean Corporation, where it played a central role in shaping the careers of emerging commercial divers. After its working life, it was transitioned from the training tank to a prominent display in the school's lobby, serving as an inspiration to students for years. This history will be documented on the included Certificate of Authenticity provided to the winning bidder. All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required.
