Smithsonite
SMITHSONITE
Choix, Municipio de Choix, Sinaloa, Mexico
Smithsonite, one of the main ores of zinc is commonly so non-descript that identifying it in the field can be a major problem. Not so here; this lovely Caribbean-blue work of art is delicately tinted by traces of copper incorporated during its growth. In addition to the luscious hue, the rounded forms of the smithsonite display a type of luster that is not smooth and glossy nor is it rough or frosted. It somehow manages to be somewhere in between. This is very characteristic of fine specimens of this mineral. There is little or no matrix. An attachment point on one edge hints at how this blue-green prize was originally affixed to the wall of a cavity. It measures 3 ½ x 2 ½ x 1 ¾ inches thick.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
