Manufactured between 1890 and 1898. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates with the S&W logo on the right rear of the frame. Matching serial number on the butt, rear cylinder face and underside of the top strap at the latch. Standard pinned blade front sight and notch rear sight, nickel finish with blue trigger guard and casehardened trigger, and fitted with smooth pearl grips with gold S&W medallions. Complete with a maroon hinged lid box numbered to another gun and directions label affixed to the inside of the lid (for 4" S&W .38 Safety), end label (again for 4"), wooden cleaning rod, screwdriver and bore brush.

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 95% original nickel finish with scattered minor flaking, mainly on the cylinder. Some frosting of the finish and minor scratches and dings. The trigger guard retains 98% original blue finish with minor spotting. The trigger retains 60% original case colors with the balance having a smooth gray patina. The grips are excellent with a few light handling marks and scuffs. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The box is good with a couple broken corners on the lid, some scuffs on the exterior and some wear and stains on the interior.
