Smith & Wesson Second Model Number Three American Revolver with Factory Letter
According to the included Smith & Wesson factory letter, this revolver was part of a 100-gun order sold to M.W. Robinson (S&W's largest distributor in that era) of New York City on April 19, 1873. The letter confirms the finish, barrel length and grip material. Blade and notch sights, with the one line Springfield address and patent markings on the barrel rib. Casehardened hammer and trigger guard, with the right side frame grip strap (under grip) barrel, latch and cylinder assembly numbered "960" and the butt of the gun serial numbered "18973". Smooth grips with the inside of the matching right panel serial numbered to the gun.

Very fine, with approximately 60% of the original blue finish, showing a mixed brown and gray patina on the sides of the barrel and on the grip straps, solid gray on the barrel rib and cylinder with brown in the flues and the frame sides, dings around the barrel lug and hinge, and scattered handling marks. Grips are fine, with some pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
