This is an excellent new in the box Smith & Wesson New Model Russian No. 3 Schofield Revolver chambered in .44 S&W Russian caliber and manufactured by Navy Arms. Earlier MFG. The revolver comes in the original box from Navy Arms Company and shows an unfired NIB condition with nearly no wear. The revolver was manufactured in 2001 in Italy by Uberti and imported by Navy Arms Co. The revolver shows a 6.5" barrel with silver half moon front sight, case colored trigger guard/hammer/cylinder latch, barrel pivot screw and ejector mechanism. The piece shows 99%-100% of the original blue finish with stained hardwood grips. The revolver shows a single action with a top break ejector. Major George Schofield designed the top break as a cavalry pistol. Its efficient, break open design could be operated with one hand making it easy to eject spent cartridges and reload from horseback. It was the Russian Government that truly embraced the new side arm with the Czar ordering 41,000 with some modifications. Marked on left side, "CAL. 44 S&W RUSSIAN" and on the right, "NAVY ARMS CO. RIDGEFIELD N.Y. A. UBERTI MADE IN ITALY." Top of the solid full rib on the 6.5 inch round barrel is marked in Russian. The firearm also shows all the correct proof marks. The Schofield 3rd Model shows a unique function with the hammer locking the locking the top break mechanism. To load and unload the cowboy pistol half cock the hammer, pull the cylinder latch up allowing the cylinder and barrel to break open and automatically eject the six spent shells. Serial number 7573.
