Smith & Wesson Number Three New Model Russian Single Action Revolver
Manufactured from 1874 to 1878, this model is also known as the 3rd Model Russian. The most notable differences in appearance from the 2nd Model are the large knurled cylinder retainer screw on the top strap, shorter ejector rod housing under the barrel and the integral front sight blade as opposed to the pinned version, as well as the 6 1/2" barrel vs. the 7" of earlier Russian Models. Blade front and latch notch rear sights, with the one line "RUSSIAN MODEL" markings on the solid rib flanked with Maltese crosses. The butt is marked with a boxed "1874" over the serial number, with the following numbers on the following components: 7230 on the cylinder, 1866 on the latch and 230 on the barrel. Fitted with smooth two piece grips with the right numbered 46503 which matches the frame number. A factory lanyard ring is mounted on the butt.

Very good. The revolver retains 30% of the original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina with some minor pitting. The trigger guard retains some scattered traces of original blue finish mixed with a smooth gray patina. The grips are good with some chipping on the back edges and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
