Manufactured between 1870 and 1872 with a total production of approximately 8,000. "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. JULY 10. 60. JAN. 17. FEB. 17. JULY 11. 65 & AUG. 24. 69" marked on top of the barrel rib flanked by Maltese crosses. The serial number is marked on the butt and the matching assembly number "604" is marked on the rear cylinder face, latch and barrel. The inside of the right grip panel is stamped "698". Pinned blade front and notch rear sights, nickel finish with casehardened hammer and trigger guard, and fitted with smooth walnut grips.

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 85% plus untouched original nickel finish with a spot of pitting present on one of the cylinder flutes. The hammer and trigger guard have a smooth gray patina. The grips are also very fine with a small chip on the right toe, some minor wear on the lower edges and a few minor dings and dents. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
