Smith & Wesson New Model #3 revolver, .44 caliber, blue finish, checkered wood grips, barrel period shortened to 4”, with western style single-loop holster showing silver conchos, including period bat-wing workingchaps, belonging to George Harry Brown. Brown was a Texas Cowboy and line-boss for legendary cattle baron Charles Goodnight of the Goodnight Loving Trail. This revolver was gifted to Harry Brown between 1909 and 1924when he was employed by Goodnight. It was understood in the Brown family that Goodnight had regularly carried the revolver and the barrel was shortened prior to coming into Brown’s possession. A notarized affidavitdated July 1992 by Grant Withers Brown at Santa Monica, CA recants these facts and states that he received the revolver from his father. Little John’s Antique Arms sold this revolver originally for the Brown estate and has sold it at least twice since 1992.
