Improved design of the original Model 3, Smith & Wesson's first top break, automatic ejection revolver produced from 1878 to 1912. Top of barrel rib is marked with the two line address and patent dates: "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN 17 & 24. 65. JULY 11. 65. / AUG 24. 69. APR 20. 75 FEB 20. & DEC 18. 1877 REISSUE JULY 25. 1871." The matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel latch and breech end of the barrel. This model features a blade front and notched rear sights. Six shot fluted cylinder with automatic ejector. The revolver is chambered for centerfire cartridges, has a casehardened trigger guard, trigger and hammer, with remaining surfaces nickel. Fitted with checkered S&W monogram embossed grips.

Condition: Replated with 97% nickel remaining. There is some wear on the muzzle and high edges of the cylinder, scattered speckled discoloration, light scratches and a few small areas of minor pitting under the finish. The hammer has a smooth dark patina. The trigger guard shows 60% case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The grips are fine with old grind marks on the tops, some minor dings and crisp checkering. The barrel markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
