This pistol is a top break and functions exactly as a revolver does. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line, two block address/patent dates with "MODEL OF 91" in the center, the left side is marked "22 LONG RIFLE CTG" and the right side of the frame has the S&W Trade Mark logo. Blade front and notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer, trigger and trigger guard and fitted with brown checkered hard rubber grips with the "S&W" logo in a circle at the tops and patent date marking. This pistol was once owned by Brigadier General John Wood. General Wood enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard on June 4, 1898 and rose through the ranks. General Wood served in various units of the National Guard including Federal service on the Mexican border and during WWI in the Office of the Quartermaster in Washington D.C. A notarized letter verifying Woods' ownership of this gun and a military bio accompany the pistol.
