Included in this lot is a Smith & Wesson model 78G is a vintage model of air-powered pistol. This model is chambered in .22 caliber pellet. The Smith & Wesson G-series pistols were designed with attention to accuracy and weight, making them ideal in developing short-range marksmanship skills while using a less-penetrating, air-driven pellet as the projectile. This pistol was designed to imitate the Smith & Wesson Model 41 target pistol. The 78G was a very early pistol made in Springfield, Mass., before S&W moved production of the pistol to Tampa, Fla. Production lasted from 1970 to 1978, according to S&W historian, Roy Jenks. This pistol is marked on the left of the frame "Model 78G .22 CAL" and on the right "SMITH & WESSON AIR GUN DIV. - SPRINGFIELD, MASS. U.S.A." The grips are a brown plastic. The frame is blue'd and retains much of the original finish. Serial Number: Q046657.
