'The .38 Military and Police Stainless,' an American made double-action only (DAO) revolver chambered for .38 Special. The Model 64-4 was released in 1988 and the modifications include a new yoke retention system, radius stud package, hammer nose bushing, and a floating hand on this 2" tapered barrel version. Revolver features a polished stainless steel finish, serrated ramped front sight, notched frame rear sight, six-round fluted cylinder, un-shrouded ejector rod with knurled ejector rod head, checkered cylinder release, round butt 'K' service frame with three screws, color-case bobbed hammer, firing pin on hammer nose, transfer bar safety, color-case smooth curved combat trigger, serrated grip straps, and checkered walnut grips with gold toned Smith & Wesson medallions. The original stainless finish retained is approximately 98% with superficial scratches, a drag line on the cylinder, and a brush mark behind the right side of the recoil shield. Metal displays no rust, but there is slight deformation in the grip screw slot. Action is smooth and crisp with a tight lock-up. Bore is bright with strong rifling, and cylinder chambers are excellent. Walnut grips are fair but serviceable, it appears that the bottom of the grip panels were sanded to change the profile. Approximately half of the grip panel's checkering remains.
