Manufactured circa 1873 to 1878 with approximately 85,200 manufactured, this model is commonly known as the Old Model Russian and is easily recognizable by the spurred trigger guard. The Second Model Russian was manufactured with a 7 inch solid rib barrel with a pinned blade front sight with notched rear sight on barrel latch. The serial number is marked on the butt and the matching assembly number "799" is marked on the cylinder, barrel, and barrel latch. Directly behind the serial number is a double stamped diamond with a double stamped "S" and an "H" inside the diamond. The top of the rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD. MASS. U.S.A. PAT. JULY 10.60. JAN. 17. FEB. 17. JULY. 11 65 & AUG. 24. 69. RUSSIAN MODEL". The bottom of the barrel lug is marked with the letter "C". All nickel finish with casehardened hammer, trigger guard, and trigger. Fitted with smooth oiled walnut grips with mismatched serial number stamped on the inside of the right panel.

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 85% original nickel finish with some flaking on the muzzle, cylinder, breech end of the barrel, lug and top strap, and on the edges of the grip straps. There is a smooth dark patina on the exposed surfaces. There is some speckled flaking on the frame. The hammer shows 40% dark original case colors, while the trigger guard has a smooth mottled gray patina. The grips are fine overall. The right panel is lighter in color, with straight grain, and minor repaired crack running the length of the panel, and the left panel shows a few minor dings. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
