Smith & Wesson Model 3 Russian 2nd Model Revolver
Manufactured between 1873 and 1878 with approximately 6,200 made for commercial sale. The top of the barrel rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. JULY 10. 60. JAN. 17. FEB. 17. JULY 11. 65. & AUG. 24. 69 RUSSIAN MODEL" flanked by Maltese crosses. The left rear of the frame is marked "1874" in a box. The rear face of the cylinder, barrel latch and barrel are marked "709". The second model Russian features the reverse spur curved trigger guard and humpback grip straps. The revolver is fitted with smooth walnut grips and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Condition: Good. The revolver retains 50% of the original "frosting" nickel finish with the balance having a smooth steel gray patina. The trigger guard has a smooth dark patina. The grips are also good with some moderate wear on the lower edges, a few minor scratches and a pleasant hand rubbed patina. The hammer spring is weak, and overall the mechanics are good. The markings remain crisp and clear.
