Included in this lot is a Smith & Wesson Model 3 2nd Model .44 caliber revolver. This Model 3 was the first of Smith & Wesson’s .44 caliber revolvers. It was first introduced in the summer of 1870 and manufactured until 1874. The Second Model variation began manufacture in December of 1871. The basic difference between the two models was the barrel catch and hammer interlock when the hammer is in it’s resting position. This six shot .44 S&W revolver features an 8” barrel with factory bluing present. The straight grain walnut grips are in good condition. There is some loss to the bluing and the receiver shows a nice patina to the color case hardening. The firearm comes with a letter from the Smith & Wesson office stating the revolver was sold on May 20th, 1874 and delivered to M.W. Robinson, New York City, NY. Serial Number: 30726. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
