Smith & Wesson First Model American, .44 cal., single action revolver, blued finish, wood grips, #3142. The pistol retains 60-80% original blue which is evenly thinning and toning and still fairly bright; there is some beginning light rust and erosion which is minor; the markings are sharp the barrel address crisp. The hammer and trigger guard show 50-70% case hardening; the action is tight, the bore is bright and near excellent. The major parts and cylinder show matching X3 assembly numbers. The right grip is good to very good with a couple of dings and mars and small scratches; the left grip is an old replacement that is well-made and hard todetect. Seldom found in this condition as these were early frontier revolvers; a nice set of grips would upgrade it immensely, particularly ivory of pearl. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
