Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action Second Model revolver, custom high relief engraved in old fitted lined brass covered casing with extra barrel engraved en suite, .38 cal., 5” barrel (extra barrel is 3-1/4”), blue finish, factorypearl gold medallion grips, #81871 in overall very good condition showing a dark patina mixed with blue on the barrel and cylinder, very good bore, crisp action, good markings and beautiful iridescent pearl grips; the front sight has beenreduced in height; the extra barrel shows considerable muted blue finish with silvered front sight, near fine bore and sharp markings. The engraving on the gun is expertly accomplished. The casing is old and also of high quality with adeep patina to the brass, re-enforced edges and etched panel scenes including a sailing ship on the lid, crashing waves on the front of the case and nautical designs repeated on both sides with the wording “GRAMMES” and “ALLENTOWN” incorporated in twin anchors of the scenes.
