Smith & Wesson 1st model double-action frontier revolver, .44-40 caliber, 6-1/2” barrel, factory style scroll engraved, nickel plated, hard-rubber grips, serial #8263. Factory letter states Shipped February 27the, 1894 to P. B. Bekeart & Co, San Francisco, CA. Shipped with 6-1/2” barrel, nickel finish, black hard-rubber grips, no mention of engraving. The engraving is absolutely genuine to the period in our opinion and thetype supplied through the factory. However, Bekeart had connections in the factory and may have had the pistol returned for engraving. The pistol retains 90-95% of its original nickel finish, some slight losses at the cylinder and high points and areas where the nickel has lifted shows some pinprick pitting. The left grip shows a large chip, otherwise the grips are good to very good. The hammer and trigger show 50-70% casehardening, the triggerguard shows 50% thinning blue, the release latch shows 75% blue. The action is tight, the bore is excellent. The interior shows virtually no use. A very attractive Smith & Wesson which
