Small unmarked Sheffield Bowie knife. Approx 11-1/8” overall with 6-5/8” blade with a sharpened false edge and no ricasso. Blade is in near mint condition with almost all of the original polish and light, small patches of discoloration. Full edge and tip. The hilt has horn scales with mother of pearl rondel decoration on the front side secured by four iron pins. The fancy crossguard with integral ferrule is cast German silver. Original leather veneer over cardboard sheath with surface damage to the veneer on both sides and missing the throat button. Circa approx. 1860’s to 1870’s. Hugh Hayes Collection.
