Small "Coffee Grinder - Firemen's Rotary" Style Handtub, Pumper. A very unusual and rare piece of Fire Apparatus built in Proctorsville, VT. by Asshel Hubbard for the paper mill in Alstead, NH, 1826. They were called Coffee Grinders, Rotaries based on their pumping movements, were generally tough to pump and bucket fed, they were superseded by the piston pumps of Hunneman and Thayer, which were more efficient and cheaper. Until about 1924 this machine was used in Alstead, first in the Mills and then in the town Fire Department, even after they purchased a Model T Pumper. Fully refurbished in excellent condition. The body measures 3' wide X 6 1/2' long, front wheel base 21" and back wheel base is 44". The crank bar is 53" long and attaches into holes on both sides of the rotary gears so that they could and can be turned. Draw bar is 6' long.
