This is a rare and unusual French Faience Small Cachepot made in the Desvres region of France. The subject matter includes a small cachepot with zigzag pointed rim, having a décor of stylized patterns and flowers. The outside of the cachepot has two handles in relief. The modeling, decorating, and glaze are well done with typical colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with bright dark blue, brilliant lemon yellow, iron red, and sage green. The inside, bottom, and the foot rim are glazed . The underside is marked FF in under glaze brown, the mark of FOURMAINTRAUX FRERES, and X and 43100 for the decorators number and the style. Desvres faience was a famous art pottery technique whereby tin glazes and decorations are applied over modeled terra cotta clay forms, and fired several times in a kiln. Please note this is not Quimper, but Desvres. Though similar, there are different color palettes used and other nuances on the two potteries. Dimensions (in inches): 3.1 Tall X 3.9 Wide X 3.9 Deep. Weight 6.8 Oz. The date is circa 1890. The item is in very good condition other than firing flaws and minor wear; there have been no repairs or restorations. Shipping and Insurance USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. is $12.00. Thanks for bidding!
