Late 19th–early 20th century small travelling trunk, wood carcase covered in textured canvas with nailed iron strapwork and pine slats to the domed lid; original leather side grips; interior lined in printed floral wallpaper with a removable divided tray. Three front latches with a central lock plate (key lacking). Honest surface, attractive patina.

Approx. dimensions (from ruler in photos): 22 in W x 14 in H x 14 in D (56 × 36 × 36 cm).

Construction & features: nailed iron banding; applied wooden slats; leather loop side handles; papered interior; tray with finger holes and small compartment.

Condition: structurally solid; expected oxidation to iron, scuffs to canvas, wear and small losses to wallpaper; handles worn; lock untested/no key. Presents well.

Dating & attribution notes:

Small “cabin” trunks of this type were popular for short journeys ca. 1880–1915. The pressed-pattern canvas covering, iron strapwork and wallpaper lining are consistent with that period.

The style of latches/lock is similar to hardware made by Eagle Lock Co., Terryville, CT—the company supplied a vast range of trunk locks/hasps in the early 1900s (see Eagle Lock Co. catalogues, e.g., 1910s–1928 editions).
